New Live Album As Acoustic Alter-Ego Coffee Bean Brown5/19/09 - San Francisco based rockers Tea Leaf Green are gearing up for a new live release that shows their softer, more stripped down side. Taking the stage without the aid of amplifiers is something the band enjoys doing so much, they invented themselves an alter-ego, cleverly dubbed "Coffee Bean Brown," to channel their acoustic energies. The java will be brewed up strong on June 2nd when the group unveils Coffee Bean Brown Comes Alive on their own Tea Leaf Green Partnership imprint. A more intimate sound than their fans may be used to, the live release features the four-piece experimenting with acoustic guitars, piano, banjo, cello, mandolin and more.
The group has released five studio albums since their formation in 1997, but they're primarily known for their energetic live performances which have garnered them a devout following. Tea Leaf Green's sound is heavily influenced by seventies rock and prog, but with a modern twist, and is best when freshly served up on stage. Recorded at NYC's now defunct East Village venue Mo Pitkins, Coffee Bean Brown Comes Alive documents a different side of the fun loving group, for fans and newcomers alike who are eager to hear the band at their roots.

Tea Leaf Green & Conservation Value Institute Announce Earth Day Weekend 'Green' Community Party At San Francisco's Fillmore4/13/09 - And I was lookin' up
at them tall redwood trees,
like looking up the skirt
of my destiny.
- Tea Leaf Green, "Zoom Zoom"
San Francisco, CA (April 7, 2009) -- On Friday and Saturday April 17-18, San Francisco's Tea Leaf Green returns to the historic Fillmore for what promises to be an epic Earth Day Weekend party for the Bay Area's 'Green' community. Click here to buy tickets: Night 1 & Night 2.
Known for its triumphant brand of psychedelic rock 'n' roll – which has been likened to its San Francisco forebears – Tea Leaf Green's music is characterized by the Earth-inspired lyrics and poignant vocals of keyboard player Trevor Garrod, a botanist who grew up on a northern California farm. The tension-release solos and soul-piercing blues guitar of Josh Clark trigger bursts of confetti to explode from the crowd at peak moments, while one of the filthiest rhythm sections in rock 'n' roll – bass virtuoso, Reed Mathis, and drummer, Scott "Ice Man" Rager – hold down the deep end.
Playing hometown shows in a city consistently ranked among the 'greenest' in the nation, the band is reaching out to the Bay Area's 'green' community, and has invited two environmental non-profits to be a part of the event each night.
Friday night, the California Student Sustainability Coalition – a project of Earth Island Institute that is transforming the operations of higher education institutions – will be joined by Conservation Value Institute, which is organizing the band's Earth Day initiative as part of its Music Industry Partnerships education program. Saturday night, ChangeSF – a community campaign for the sustainable transformation of San Francisco – will be joined by HeadCount, who will be promoting its new partnership with Save The Bay.
All I need's a drop of water,
I'm a seed born on the wind.
I was once a flower
And I'll be a flower again
- Tea Leaf Green, "If It Wasn't For the Money"
"Respecting the Earth is really important to Tea Leaf Green," says the band's long-time entertainment coordinator, Todd "Sauce" Wallenbrock, who is known to hike 30+ miles deep into wilderness areas of the American West. "You find out what is important in maintaining this world really quickly. Spend a few days in the back country catching three pound goldens [trout] for dinner, and things make little more sense."
Wise men are hiding in the mountains
while most of us are working too hard
- Tea Leaf Green, "Kali-Yuga"
Friday night, rising Indy/Newgrass band, Or, the Whale open the show on the main stage, while guitar maestro, Sean Leahy, plays the poster room before the show and during set break. Seattle superstars and Summer Meltdown hosts, Flowmotion, open Saturday night, and Eugene, Oregon's Freedom Tribe will play its vaunted mystical soundscapes in the poster room.
Click here to purchase tickets to what promises to be a historic pair of Earth Day weekend shows: Night 1 & Night 2
Pre-parties are on tap for both nights – check the band's "Forum" at TeaLeafGreen.com for details.
Following its Fillmore shows, Tea Leaf Green will embark on an east coast tour, and then will launch into a summer filled with festival appearances, highlighted by Mountain Jam, High Sierra, AllGood, and 10,000 Lakes.
Nature Is Heaven's Accord.

A Message From Ben and Tea Leaf Green11/14/07 - After ten great years on the road as a touring musician, I have come to the realization that this life is not for me. As a result, I have decided to leave Tea Leaf Green to pursue some of my life's other passions. I wish my brothers in the band only the best. Their future is surely bright. Most of all, I am so grateful to my family, friends, and fans. You've always encouraged my free spirit; thanks for your continued support.
Ben C.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In any band, there exists a dynamic between the collective's goals and those of the individual members. At times, aspirations that were once aligned, diverge. This is one of those times. We support Ben's decision without reservation and wish him only the best. We know he put his heart and soul into thinking this through, just like he did with Tea Leaf Green these past ten years; we admire Ben for staying true to himself.
As one chapter ends, so another begins. In this moment of transition, we've reached out to our good friend, Reed Mathis, who enthusiastically accepted the torch. Please join us in Santa Cruz as we welcome Reed to the band. Let's get this show on the road!
